Bio:
Holger Gardelius (1908–1972), full name Oskar Elof Holger Gardelius, was a Swedish painter, draughtsman, and graphic artist born in Stockholm. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and continued his artistic studies in Paris. Gardelius worked with landscapes, still lifes, and works on paper and is noted for grey-toned watercolours depicting the Stockholm archipelago as well as gouaches with subjects from Paris. His work belongs to the broader development of 20th-century Swedish art, with a characteristic emphasis on simplified form and colour.
