Christian Poulsen

Christian Poulsen, (1911-1991), Danish ceramicist. After education at The School of Arts and Crafts and employment at Bing & Grondahl, Christian Poulsen's opened his own workshop 1933-38 and again from 1946 in Ørholm. From here came a completely new type of stoneware that appeared with glassy shiny, viscous glazes in strong colors.

Later, Christian Poulsen developed a finely tuned scale of gray-white, yellow and blue tones in tightly modeled, often almost monumental forms.
