Bio:
Scandinavian abstract art of the 1950s and 1960s was characterised by an increasingly free approach to form, colour, and composition. Influences included European modernism, Abstract Expressionism, and the spontaneous visual language associated with the COBRA movement. Pastel offered artists a particularly direct and tactile medium, allowing strong areas of colour to be combined with bold, drawing-like contours. This work from 1967 reflects the periods interest in rhythmic forms, strong contrasts, and the interplay between geometric structure and spontaneous gesture.
