Nils Joakim Kähler, who was the last of four generations from the Kähler family to lead the ceramic factory, took over the control in 1940 together with his brother, Herman Jørgen Kähler.
Nils Kähler contributed to guiding Kähler's Ceramic Workshop into the era of modernism, notably through his minimalist salt-glazed stoneware ceramic designs. His ceramics emphasized shape and material, and represented a departure from the company's traditional focus on colored glazes and decoration.
