He trained as a thrower at the Swiss School of Ceramics in Chavannes-près-Renens from 1936 to 1939 and subsequently worked in the ceramics industry. From the 1950s, he developed his independent artistic practice with a particular focus on stoneware, glazes and high-temperature firing. His work is especially recognised for its sophisticated glazes, and his production encompassed vessels, unique pieces and ceramic works for architecture.
