He received his artistic training in Germany and France. Early in his career, he worked in a dark, romantic style, painting marines and portraits. In the 1940s he shifted toward a more realistic approach, focusing mainly on northern Swedish landscapes. Alyre is represented in several Swedish museums, including the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm. He traveled widely in Europe and was influenced by modern French painting as well as artists such as Ernst Josephson.
