In 1933, he studied at the Reimann-Schule in Berlin and created his first nonfigurative painting in 1940. He debuted at the Artists’ Autumn Exhibition in 1945 and co-founded the artist group Linien II in 1947. Among his early works was the relief Hommage à Piet Mondrian (1947, Esbjerg Art Museum). Later, he developed a style with strong colors, circles, and lines.
